“Count Me Out” Is the Song for a Generation Learning to Say No

Reading Time: 3 Minutes

The pressure to keep up is real. Nights out, endless notifications, the constant hum of do more, be more, it’s exhausting. Yet what happens when you finally hit pause? That’s the question Same. are answering with “Count Me Out”, their second single and the soundtrack for a generation that’s learning the radical art of self-control. Dropped on August 22nd, the track is already resonating with fans for its bold, unapologetic message: choosing self-worth over self-sabotage. This isn’t just another indie-pop anthem—it’s a manifesto for anyone learning that sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is say no.

At its core, “Count Me Out” is about the universal struggle to grow into a better version of yourself without giving in to impatience, peer pressure, and bad habits. It’s a track that digs deep into what it means to prioritise your future self, even when it means missing out on those fun nights that everyone else is having.

Jimmy, one half of the duo, breaks it down: “As brothers, we’ve always had each other’s backs, naturally keeping each other in check and on the right path. Writing ‘Count Me Out’ was a great way to realign ourselves again. Part of growing up for us has been learning when to say no, figuring out when to prioritise our future selves, and being okay with missing out on some fun nights here and there.”

For Harry, the journey is ongoing: “Maybe you never fully get there, but ideally we’re striving to become people we can be proud of. We’ve found it can be really hard to admit the bad habits that hold you back, especially when they’re intertwined with your work and social life.”

The duo call the track a “guardrail,” a reminder to keep their ambitions on track when life gets chaotic. “We hope it can do the same for others who might need that gentle nudge in the right direction,” says Jimmy.

Count Me Out combines sharp lyricism with soaring hooks. It’s introspective yet uplifting, a blend of vulnerability and grit wrapped in a polished indie-pop sound. It feels like the soundtrack to late-night drives and big life decisions, carrying the weight of its message without losing its energy.

So far 2025 has been a rapid climb for the brothers since releasing their debut single “Chance Encounter”, which was championed by BBC Introducing and even crowned BBC Surrey’s Track of the Day. Since then, their calendar has been packed:

  • ✅ UK tour supporting American artist Sid Simons.
  • ✅ Support slot with Modern Sky’s Keysides this November.
  • ✅ A partnership with Beyond Retro for a unique UK shop-tour, fusing music with vintage fashion and exclusive merch drops.
  • ✅ A packed-out London headline show attended by industry names like Seye Adelekan (Gorillaz) and Cosmo Pyke, with Getty Images capturing the night.

Not bad for a band still in their first chapter and on the theme of accountability, the duo have committed to releasing a new song every six weeks. It’s an ambitious pledge, however if “Count Me Out” is anything to go by, the next few months are set to deliver big. So if you’re looking for a track that challenges you to put yourself first without losing the thrill of a killer hook—“Count Me Out” is your song.
