BE GOOD are a four-piece from Oxford, they formed after a serendipitous meeting in a ceramic arts class. Vocalist Ash Cooke and drummer Charlie Clark initially shared a passion for clay, but ultimately bonded over nights listening to rap music in a South East London flat. Relocating to Cooke’s hometown Oxford, they enlisted James Cunning (synths) and Patch Burley (bass), both of whom were models at a local life drawing class, to start a band.
If you’re a fan of classics, it’s important to note that the band was indeed named after a 96-year-old chemistry professor John B. Goodenough. The band have grown strength to strength from performing in a small town suburban area to touring throughout the UK, songs broadcasted onto Spotify’s Chilled Pop playlist and picked up by BBC Introducing in Oxford and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens. Also success has come from publication coverage from the likes of Complex, The Line of Best Fit and DIY.
If only he owned Pokemon, one could relive their childhood lifestyle, alas one will have to dream for a brighter day. Ash the lead singer and songwriter of BE GOOD, says the following about their latest track “Crying In The Bathroom”.
“This song is written from the viewpoint of someone who can’t quite get what they want. I imagined zooming in to these close-up intimate moments, and zooming out to an almost disembodied sense of remoteness. The demo originally included a loop that we found online, but Patch re-recorded it on his banjo with his phone and sent it to us over Whatsapp. I love the scratchy imperfection of it. Felt really good to put it in the final track.”
